Register TODAY for Humanities Advocacy Day!

The National Humanities Alliance’s 2008 Conference and Humanities Advocacy Day will take place March 3-4, 2008, at The George Washington University and on Capitol Hill. This is a unique two-day event for those interested in humanities policy and advocacy. February 1, 2008 is the registration deadline, so click here to register!

The opening session on Monday, March 3 will introduce NHA’s special initiative to articulate a National Agenda for the Humanities. It will also provide an opportunity to meet with representatives from federal agencies and feature a luncheon and keynote address by Dr. Charles Vest (co-sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences and the Office of the Chief Research Officer at The George Washington University). Dr. Vest, President of the National Academy of Engineering, is also the Vice Chair of the National Research Council, President Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a member of the Spellings Commission on the Future of Higher Education.

In the afternoon, participants will prepare for Humanities Advocacy Day with legislative and policy briefings. Additional break-out sessions will be offered this year, in addition to a special session for first time participants in Humanities Advocacy Day activities. The first day of events will conclude with a reception and address by Professor Anthony Grafton, who will discuss, “Into Thin Air? Libraries and Archives in a New Age.”

On Tuesday, March 4 an evening celebration sponsored by The History Channel will take place at the historic Sewall-Belmont House & Museum on Capitol Hill. Plans are currently underway to make this a distinctive event for participants, Members of Congress, and their staff.
