John Hamilton Named NARA Congressional Affairs Director

Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein recently announced the appointment of John Hamilton to the position of Director of Congressional Affairs for the National Archives. Mr. Hamilton will assume his new position on September 15, 2008.

For the last 12 years, Mr. Hamilton has led federal relations efforts for the University of California (UC) in Washington, DC, representing ten campuses, five medical centers and three Department of Energy National Laboratories. As UC’s senior federal relations official, his fields of expertise include the federal budget and appropriations processes, science and technology policy, and higher education programs and regulations.

For four years prior to working at the University of California, Mr. Hamilton served as the assistant director for federal relations at the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges where he was an advocate to Congress and federal agencies for 170 public research universities on key policy and funding issues.

Mr. Hamilton is a native of Michigan. He received a BA in history from Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan and an MBA from an international graduate school at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea.
