I recently purchased Some land in Cleveland County, NC, that has some rockwork on it. My neighbor, whose family has lived in the area for generations, claims that it is the remains of an old fort. He had heard that it dated back to the war of 1812. But if it is indeed the vestige of a military campaign, I would guess it dates back to the revolutionary War, since the land is not to far from King's Mountain It has a terrific view of the surrounding area, making it a logical spot for an outpost.

The War of 1812, is the forgotten war in American history because if falls between the Revolution and Civil Wars, and because of the American Indian participation in the war on both sides it considered to be one of the many Indian Wars fought in the early 19th Century. However, when viewed in a North American context, its true importance as a war between Great Britain and the emerging United States of America can be measured. The protection of these battlefields is important to both the people of the United States and Canada.
