National Archives Schedules Advisory Panel Meetings

The National Archives recently announced upcoming meetings of three advisory panels: the Advisory Committee on Presidential Library-Foundation Partnerships, the Advisory Committee on the Electronic Records Archive (ACERA) and the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB).

The Advisory Committee on the Electronic Records Archives (ACERA) advises the Archivist of the United States, on technical, mission, and service issues related to the Electronic Records Archives (ERA).

The ACERA meeting will be held on November 3, 2010, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and November 4, 2010, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the National Archives Building, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20408. The meeting is open to the public. However, due to space limitations and access procedures, the name and telephone number of individuals planning to attend must be submitted to the Electronic Records Archives Program at era.program@nara.gov.

The Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) advises the President and other executive branch officials on the declassification of historical federal records related to national security.

The PIDB will be meeting on Tuesday, November 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the National Archives Building 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20408.

The meeting is open to the public however an RSVP is required for this event, as seating is limited. Affirmative responses should be sent to pidb@nara.gov. Those wishing to RSVP must do so by Friday, November 5 at noon. RSVPs received after that date cannot be accepted.

In his December 29, 2010 implementing memorandum for Executive Order 13526, President Obama directed the Board to undertake a study in concert with the National Security Advisor to design a fundamental transformation of the security classification system. The purpose of this upcoming meeting is to discuss “big ideas” for transforming the classification system. The meeting will open with a discussion panel of national security experts and conclude with a period for public comment.

The Advisory Committee on Presidential Library-Foundation Partnerships will be meeting to discuss the issues at the National Archives as they relate to Presidential Libraries, the Electronic Record Archives (ERA), the National Declassification Center and priorities for declassification, and recommendations from the Advisory Committee on standing or ad hoc subcommittees, including an update on the development of MOUs.

The meeting will be held on November 10, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the National Archives Building, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20408.
