NCH Submits Testimony on Proposed FY 15 National Archives Budget

The National Coalition for History today submitted testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee on the administration’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2015 budget for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). NCH criticized the proposed $9.5 million reduction in funding for FY 15, noting that programs NARA refers to as “citizen services” appear to be bearing a disproportionate share of the cuts.

NCH supported a proposed increase for the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grants program—albeit a modest $500,000— bringing the agency’s funding up to a level of $5 million in fiscal year (FY) 2015. This program has repeatedly been targeted for elimination by some in Congress and seen its budget reduced dramatically in recent years.
