OMB/NARA Issue New Mandate on the Use of Electronic Records

In July, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and NARA jointly issued a new memorandum providing guidance on managing Federal records. In a major policy change, the memo mandates that all Federal agencies must transfer permanent records to NARA in electronic formats after December 31, 2022. In other words, NARA will no longer accept paper records as of that date. This change will obviously have far-reaching impacts on all users of the National Archives. To see the memo, click here.
