NCH Statement on Nomination of Dr. Colleen Joy Shogan as Archivist of the United States

Dr. Colleen Joy Shogan is an excellent choice to serve as the 11th Archivist of the United States. She will be the first political scientist to serve in that capacity and will bring a wealth of rich experience in academia and public service to her new duties. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) faces a host of challenges ranging from technological innovation to attracting and retaining a highly talented and well-trained workforce prepared to continue the transition from paper to electronic records. For too long, NARA has been underfunded and underappreciated for the work it does to ensure that the public has access to the records needed to keep our citizenry informed and to hold our government leadership accountable. These roles could not be any more essential than they are at this point in our nation’s history.  We very much look forward to working with Dr. Shogan in that effort.
